History

The DHC’s first incarnation was as a group that had come together to apply for a Jackman Humanities Institute (JHI)  Working Group grant for the 2010-11 academic year. The original proposal is available on the ‘Documents’ page.

When our application was not successful, a core group of the applicants decided that the conversations that had been initiated in preparing for the JHI application were of such interest and importance that we should continue to meet and discuss issues of concern to DH practitioners at UofT, especially since there were no other forums for such discussion.

In the course of our discussions in the Fall and Winter of 2010, one thing became very clear to the DHC: there are many people at the UofT who have an interest and a role to play in fostering digital humanities at the university, but these people are not connecting or dialoguing with each other.

As a result, the DHC decided, starting in 2011, to facilitate this dialogue by identifying and inviting people involved in DH at UofT to meet and share with us their perspective on the state of DH at the university, to join the DHC if they wish, and to keep the UofT community informed of our activities, of DH development at the university and of other DH news by means of this blog.
